PE & SPORTS

Key Stage 2

The Vision for PE at Knaphill School

Our vision at Knaphill School is for every child to develop a positive relationship with PE for a life of long-term movement, health and well-being. Each and every child should:

  • Enjoy their experience of PE.
  • Achieve physical competence.
  • Feel confident and motivated to participate in physical activity in and out of curriculum PE.
  • Have the skills and knowledge needed to succeed.

What is PE at Knaphill School?

We have designed an ambitious curriculum which is accessible to all children. Our curriculum is carefully planned and sequenced to enable children to develop skills and knowledge. We use an approach which develops Learning Behaviours and Fundamental Movement Skills through various different activities including the Real PE platform, games, OAA, swimming and athletics.

We teach Learning Behaviours, which focus on the whole child and are in line with our school values. Our 6 half-termly Learning Behaviours are:

Social
Personal
Cognitive
Creative
Physical
Health and Fitness

We teach Fundamental Movement Skills which children build upon and revisit throughout their time at Knaphill School. We teach these in imaginative and engaging lessons. The 12 fundamental movement skills are divided into:

Agility

Coordination

We teach children how to participate in healthy competition as a tool to develop their learning behaviours and fundamental movement skills. Through a curriculum which offers traditional sport, as well as creative physical activity, children develop and demonstrate their knowledge of following rules, tactics, strategy and working towards shared goals as a team. Our extra-curricular offer focuses on a breadth of diverse sports opportunities; participation in competitive sports; and crucially, opportunities and activities which are inclusive and financially accessible to all.
