Key Stage 2

Our Vision for Music at Knaphill School

As musicians at Knaphill School, children will express their creativity, further their freedom of expression, and approach musical challenges with a growth mindset. Using the National Curriculum, the vision for Music at Knaphill School has been shaped around our curriculum drivers of community, environment and innovation. In line with our curriculum principles, we intend to ensure the development of character and the strengthening of social justice through the acquisition of powerful knowledge.

Knaphill School follows an excellent music scheme, provided by Surrey Arts Interactive, which offers varying levels of depth to suit children from Early Years through to Year 6. The main focuses are “Listening and Appraising”, “Musical Activities”, and “Singing and Playing Instruments”. Each of these focuses is adapted to suit the needs of the learner throughout the duration of their time in school.

In Music, children will be studying a broad, deep and rich curriculum, which will in turn enable them to access and understand different types of music more profoundly. An effective music curriculum enables students to understand their own and others’ cultures and respect the diversity of others. Experiencing other cultures’ music, and engaging with areas of the world they may not have engaged with otherwise, is strongly promoted throughout the Music curriculum: this will expand children’s consciousness, cultural understanding, and worldview.
