Curriculum Vision and Intent
KLS Curriculum Principles
KLS Key Curriculum Concepts
In our ever-changing, complex world, the children of today need to develop the knowledge, skills and strength of character to empower them to create their own bright future.
We provide every child with the powerful knowledge they need to build a strong foundation for learning.
Reading is given the highest priority as this enables access to the full curriculum.
Children are given a window into the lives of others, as well as seeing a reflection of their own lives, which are mirrored in our curriculum. Our selected subject content supports children to develop their knowledge of complex issues, giving them an informed voice in a changing world. Our curriculum empowers children to be the voice of a better future for all.
We enable children to develop a positive attitude towards learning, whilst maintaining excellent behaviour. Children use our Knaphill values, which they learn through specific teaching, curriculum subjects and key texts, to guide their thinking and behaviour.
We provide space in our curriculum for children to develop good emotional regulation and a growth mindset as this is the bedrock on which children build and maintain happy, healthy relationships.
Our curriculum design is based on robust cognitive science research. This foundation helps children to know more, do more and remember more over time. Children are required to retrieve and build on previous learning, as they return to key themes throughout their years at Knaphill Lower School.
Community – children’s knowledge helps them to understand the experiences and heritage of themselves and others.
Sustainability – children’s knowledge, and experience of outdoor education, develops their voice of change, enabling them to become active world citizens who are determined to create a more sustainable future.
Innovation – children’s knowledge encourages an understanding of innovation, which will help them to be inspired to begin their journey of future employment.
