ART

Our vision for Art at Knaphill Lower School:

At Knaphill Lower School, our art curriculum is designed to inspire all children to become young artists as they build their knowledge of artistic techniques using the work of the art greats. Art, craft and design embody some of the highest forms of human creativity and all children are entitled to find their artistic voice by encouraging exploratory journeys, working towards varied and individual outcomes. We believe that teaching art is vital to developing our children’s character, as children are empowered to express their own character, feelings, imagination, and perspective of the world through the work they produce. This is crucial for allowing children to develop their own sense of identity.

Our curriculum promotes artistic innovation. It is designed to provide opportunities for children to design and explore whilst building their mastery of artistic techniques so they feel confident in reaching their creative potential and communicating their unique perspective. We are determined that a child’s artwork should give an insight into the world through their eyes. Artists and their work are selected to provide a broad and rich, contemporary and diverse art knowledge, leading to inspiration in a curriculum that is aspirational yet accessible.

As pupils progress, they will be given the opportunity to think critically about the art they see and create, to understanding what art means to them.
